Several years ago I purchased a tape course entitled “The Hundred Greatest Men That Ever Lived.” It included a one hour biography of their lives. It included people like George Washington, Abe Lincoln, Leonardo DiVinci; John Calvin, Henry Ford, Albert Einstein, Winston Churchill, Karl Marx, Freud, Beethoven etc. Good, bad or ugly, these were people who influenced the course of human history.
Many came from backgrounds of extreme adversity. But as I contemplate the characteristics that they all had in common is they were all people with extreme passion. They were great thinkers. They knew what they believed and would die for it. Most people are like sheep. They blindly follow passion. That’s why Hitler moved the minds of the masses.
Another book I recently read was entitled, “Ten Books That Screwed Up The World And Five More That Didn’t Help.” By Joseph Wiecher. Because of these books, tens of millions of innocent people have been slaughtered due to evil leaders in their perverted quest for what they considered UTOPIA, a word meaning: NOWHERE!
What is the purpose of life? How will you measure your life? What is your worldview? How you view the world will determine everything you accomplish in life. In this information age people have greater access to information than at any time in human history. In a matter of seconds with an iPhone you can have access to the history of the world, or to how to cook a turkey. When I graduated from college in 1970 the half-life of medical school was 4 years, which means that half of what students learned was out of date by the time they graduated. The problem was nobody told them which half. What we learn in college that doesn’t work can only be learned by experience. There are thousands of DVD’s, CD’s, plus hundreds of satellite radio channels, TV channels and computer websites. There are thousands of books published every year. John Adams said, “To educate a child without morals is to educate a menace to society.” What good does it do to become a great engineer if you use your knowledge to blow up the Oklahoma Trade Center?
Today the opportunities are so great that anybody could become a world renowned expert on any subject if they focus their energy within just a few years. The most important learning and lessons of life don’t occur on the college campus.
But the paradox of our time is ‘the more we know, the less we understand.’ People are more confused now more than ever. I saw a bumper sticker that said, “Honk if you believe in anything.” In a nutshell that describes the problem of our century. Hosea 4:6 says, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.”
America is known as the land of opportunity. Too many young people are indoctrinated that we are a racist, sexist, homophobic, and slave owning country. Political correctness and changing the meaning of words is closing their minds, and threatens the future of the next generation. President Wilson said, “A nation that doesn’t know where it came from, cannot know who it is or where it’s going.” Ronald Reagan said, “We don’t inherit freedom in our bloodstream. The principles of liberty must be deliberately taught and nurtured in the hearts and minds of each generation, for it is never more than one generation away from extinction.”
There has only been 6000 years of recorded history since the beginning of time. So if everyone lived to be 100 years old, that means there has been only 60 lifetimes since the beginning of man. If someone invented a time machine to compress those 6000 years into 24 hours it would mean America has only been a country for 3 ½ seconds. But in those 3 ½ seconds, over 50% of all the economic activity that has ever occurred in the history of the world, has occurred here. Over 90% of mankind’s inventions and discoveries have occurred here. How is it that in 200 years, Americans have accomplished more starting with nothing than all the previous 6000 years combined?
America is the only country built on a creed: ONE NATION UNDER GOD! What does nature’s law and nature’s God mean? The nature of birds is to fly, the nature of fish is to swim, the nature of man is NOT TO BE ENSLAVED. Where did that idea come from? Our forefathers, the Pilgrims and Puritans believe that every human being is created in the image of God, the creator of the universe, slightly less than the angels, which is better than slightly higher than the apes. They combined the principles of Christianity and capitalism – allowing people to keep the fruits of their own labor. And it wasn’t long until they took the electricity out of the clouds, the aluminum out of the clay, the oil out of the rock. They had rivers to be bridged, mountains to be trailed and cities to be built. Why, we built the greatest country the world has ever dreamed of, because mankind was given the liberty for each individual to develop their own unique knowledge, talents and abilities and soar the heights of their ambitions.
Where the spirit of the Lord is there is liberty. Before America became a country the history of the world was run by dictators, tyrants, and monarchs. It was a bloodbath. Only in America does our constitution begin with WE THE PEOPLE! The argument on self-government with James Madison, chief architect of the Constitution was, “If we let people govern themselves they could rape, rob and murder each other.” John Adams said, “Yes, freedom without virtue is madness.” As late as 1776, 98% of the inhabitants believed in the God of the Bible. They concluded that it was worth the experiment to allow people to govern themselves. But liberty requires two things: MORAL RESTRAINT, AND INDIVIDUAL RESPONSIBILITY. Liberty is not license. George Washington said, “It is impossible to govern without God and the Bible.” He said, “Of all the dispositions that maintain good government, religion and morality are indispensable supports. Reason and experience have taught us that national morality can exist in the exclusion of religious principle.”
Our forefathers understood the sinful nature of man. They designed the role of government to be a watchdog to be fed, not a cow to be milked. Today the greatest enemy of America is a new philosophy: A philosophy that says the individual is no longer economically responsible for his own welfare, nor is he morally responsible for his own conduct. This foreign ideology will destroy America from within. Abraham Lincoln said, “If America ever fails it will be because we have committed national suicide from within. The history of the human race is to go from bondage, to faith. From faith to great courage, from courage to liberty, from liberty to abundance and prosperity, from prosperity to complacency, from complacency to apathy, and from apathy back to bondage.
In essence that is why we have started this website. To inform, and inspire, the next generation to a new birth of freedom.
